Catholic Charities responds to passage of civil unions by State House of Representatives
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Denver expresses disappointment in the Colorado legislature’s inability to provide legal protection for faith-based institutions in the currently debated form of Senate Bill 11.
The bill potentially jeopardizes the religious and civil liberty of those providing foster care and adoption services to Colorado’s children.
If passed into law, this bill may threaten the policies which guide us in the vital work to find families for Colorado's children in need.
Catholic Charities remains steadfastly committed to our longstanding mission to provide children with the love and care they deserve, and to support all of our foster and adoptive families, particularly those who desire to serve these children in the context of their own faith-based community.
Senate Bill 11 threatens our valuable mission to the community, and is an affront to Constitutional protection of the underlying religious convictions and beliefs which guide our work.
