"Support families and individuals experiencing homelessness, and receive a 25% State Tax Credit"
What is an "Enterprise Zone"?
Enterprise Zones exist to encourage private involvement in economically distressed areas.
Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Denver operates three homeless shelters, each designated as Enterprise Zone organizations:
- In Denver County: The Samaritan House Homeless Shelter
- In Larimer County: The Mission
- In Weld County: The Guadalupe Community Shelter
Cash contributions (see miminum amount requirements below) made via the Enterprise Zone Tax Credit and designated to any of three homeless shelters listed above are eligible for a 25% tax credit on state income tax.
In addition, stock and substantiated in-kind contributions qualify for a 12.5% credit. If such stock gifts are accompanied by a cash gift of at least 1/7th of the stock value, then the tax credit increases to 25%. Please consult your personal tax accountant for further details.
NOTE: Minimum Amount Requirements: The Enterprise Zone Tax Credit requires a minimum gift of $250 to Denver's Samaritan House Homeless Shelter, or a minimum gift of $100 to either The Mission in Larimer County, or The Guadalupe Community Shelter in Weld County.
Changes to Enterprise Zone Tax Credit - Effective January 1, 2012
As of January 1, 2012, legislative changes for the state of Colorado require that all taxpayers claiming Enterprise Zone tax credits, from any Enterprise Zone eligible organization, file their 2013 tax returns electronically.
Additionally, in order to qualify for the Enterprise Zone tax credit, all donors must provide Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Denver with their Colorado Taxpayer Identification Number (which can be either your Social Security Number, or Colorado Account Number [assuming you currently file your taxes using this number], or, for businesses, the FEIN number [assuming you currently file your taxes using this number]).
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Colorado Taxpayer Identification Number is required in order to process this tax credit. Without the Taxpayer Identification Number, we are unable to send your donation to the Enterprise Zone Administrator for certification and thus unable to process your donation as an Enterprise Zone contribution.
As a participating agency, the state governnment requires Catholic Charities to submit all donations to this tax credit to the Enterprise Zone Administrator for approval. The Enterprise Zone Administrator collectively processes donations on a semi-annual basis. Once the Enterprise Zone Administrator has approved your donation for tax deduction, Catholic Charities will then mail your Tax Credit Certificate to your mailing address on file.
